HYL History
HYL was founded in 1988 by Steven da Silva and Elvis Machado. Originally, it was started as a freestyle bmx and skate zine, to represent our local scene in the 02740. We managed to get three issues published before we got lazy about the zine and just rode our bikes more. Things keep moving slowly in the underground with a few people here and asking "what ever happened to your zine"?...We made a bunch of stickers and started to pop them up everywhere, and people were asking what is it all about. So with quite a few years of development, HYL has emerged as "the elite underground society". Our motives are pretty much the same as they were when we started out. Some things never change.

If you ride, skate or surf, you've come to the right place. We're a bunch of guys from New Bedford, MA that wanted to create a website to share info and pics. HYL began in the early '80s and has grown stronger than ever. The focus back then was riding and skating, but now it involves snowboarding, surfing and motorcrossing. We have a lot of things in the works for the website so check back often.
